I am seriously thinking of an Explorer II as my next watch and despite having other 42mm pieces I am concerned that there are many comments that it wears big. My wrist size is .

I am looking for comments/opinions/owners if the latest generation of 42 mm Explorer II with a Black dial will look OK on my 7 inch wrist or will it be too big? There is no stock of 42 mm Explorer II (back or polar) anywhere near me so I can not try it on before ordering it.
The previous 42mm version was already a wide, and relatively thin, wristwatch, and that continues with the 226570, which is a hair thinner at 12.5mm than the ref 1655, the Explorer II that started it all. I have 8" wrists and prefer my 39mm Explorer over the 42mm Explorer-II. If I had 6.5" wrists I'd wear the new 36mm Explorer and 36mm Datejust/Day-Date.

That differentiated the Explorer II from other Rolex sports models of the time like the Submariner and GMT Master (both of those models had rotating bezels with aluminum inserts).But to me it doesn't seem that the 42mm seems to be what causes it though, since the lug to lug seems fine on your wrist. Probably its the white dial which accentuates the size. Personally I always go 2mm smaller with light dials compared to dark ones.
