Based on what I can find to read online I'm finding conflicting opinions regarding the appropriate date wheel for a 1680 submariner circa 1969. Should it be white or silver and if silver, painted or brushed metal. Should it have open 6's except 26 or closed 6's. The crystal on the Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 was made of acrylic and featured a Cyclops magnification lens above the date window. The Cyclops lens made it easier to read the date, a feature that was new to the Submariner line with this model. Date wheels on 1680 and 1665 subs have been the bane of my existence. I've sold three of them because the date wheel alignment sucked. Some were good for half the dates, others were too far to to left or too far to the right. Came across this 1680 in Dubai. very interesting dial and date wheel. The red text was also much larger and longer than I am used to seeing. My initial thoughts are a bad dial redo and relume? Also the insert font looks very thin. Any experts care to weigh in?
